Last Monday 23rd September, the Director of FICA Festival, Juantxo Sabadie, and the Marketing Director of MONDO Ibérica, Amaia Lafarga, met at MONDO’s offices in Saragossa to sign the partnership agreement for FICA2019, the international film and athletics festival being held in the Gipuzkoa capital from 4th-9th November.
This year’s festival will be attended by Carmen Valero, a Spanish athlete specialising in cross-country events who won back-to-back world championships. On Friday 8th, Carmen will be taking part in the workshop “Women and Athletics” alongside Niurka Montalvo, a long jump athlete and gold medallist at the World Championships in Seville 1999.
New features in this 2nd Edition of FICA2019 include a generational exchange in which Carmen Valero, Niurka Montalvo and Mireya Arnedillo, the 16-year-old bronze medallist in the 1500 metres at the 15th European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) held this year in Baku, will discuss their impressions and experiences.
Putting a final touch to this great cast of women from Spanish athletics is the chairperson of the FICA2019 jury, Sandra Myers, not only a former Spanish athlete originally from the US, but also a musicologist and politician. Sandra is considered one of greatest ever Spanish athletes, and the best ever in the 100, 200 and 400 metres sprint and long jump. She will also surprise us with a new piano piece composed exclusively for the festival.
